We are currently in search of a Social Media Manager for the Computer History Museum. This position is hybrid in Mountain View, CA.

POSITION TITLE: Social Media Manager
SCHEDULE: Full-Time
DURATION: Permanent
SALARY RANGE: $85k - $95k
Is This Your Dream Job? At the Computer History Museum, the mission is to decode technology—its computing past, digital present, and future impact on humanity. Through research, events, artifacts, and oral histories, CHM convenes, informs, and empowers people to shape a better future.
The Social Media Manager manages the Museum’s presence across social media platforms to engage audiences, promote exhibits and events, and strengthen the Museum’s brand and online reputation. This role is responsible for developing and executing social media content, supporting platform strategy, engaging with audiences, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to bring the Museum’s stories to life.
Our Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience
3–5 years of experience managing social media for a brand or organization
Experience creating and publishing content across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, and X
Demonstrated ability to create engaging social content, including short-form video
Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and voice across platforms
Experience using analytics to evaluate performance and inform content strategy
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to translate complex content into engaging, accessible stories for a variety of audiences
Collaborative approach and experience working cross-functionally with marketing, communications, education, PR, or content teams
Interest in emerging trends, platforms, and audience engagement strategies
Preferred
Experience in a museum, cultural, technology, educational, or mission-driven organization
Basic photo/video editing and content production skills
Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools
Experience with CRM or marketing platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot
How You Will Spend Your Day
Manage and execute social media strategy aligned with organizational goals, audience priorities, and brand voice
Create engaging content across formats, including video, graphics, and written content
Identify and develop stories that highlight the Museum’s collections, programs, events, and expertise
Manage the Museum’s presence across social media platforms, tailoring content to each audience and channel
Partner with curatorial, education, marketing, communications, and PR teams to elevate key stories and initiatives
Support integrated marketing, public relations, and paid social campaigns
Engage with and grow online communities across existing and emerging platforms
Monitor trends, technologies, and audience behaviors to identify opportunities for innovation and experimentation
Track performance metrics, analyze results, and refine content strategies based on audience engagement and organizational goals
Coordinate content production, approvals, contractors, and deadlines to ensure projects are completed on time
Maintain consistency in the Museum’s voice, messaging, and visual identity across all social media channels
